Your First Visit
Your first visit to Dr. Summerlin typically includes x-rays that allows the doctor to view the structure of the jaw, the position of any teeth that have not yet erupted, malformed roots, and tooth decay.
The initial visit also involves getting your medical history. When you share your medical history with the doctor, be sure to provide complete, up-to-date information on your health. Inform your doctor if you have experienced recent hospitalization or surgery, or if you have recently been ill. Also tell the doctor the names, doses, and frequency of any medications you are taking – whether prescription or over-the-counter products – and the name of your physician. Inform the doctor of any changes in your health or medications. It is also important to bring up any fears you may have about dental treatment. This information will help the doctor to select the safest and most effective method of treatment for you.
After the doctor has evaluated your records, we discuss any follow-up treatment with you in detail, including the cost for your particular case. We will also discuss fees and payment options at this appointment.
Payment & Office Policies
Since appointed times are reserved exclusively for each patient, please notify our office at least 48 hours in advance to change or cancel an appointment. We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. Failure to do so may result in a missed appointment fee. If your appointment is on a Monday, please notify us by the previous Thursday morning. This may allow another patient adequate notice to attend the available appointment. We understand unexpected things happen, but we ask for your assistance in this regard. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately.
The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient's problem. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before treatment begins. We also accept assignment from most insurance plans, and we will file the necessary papers to the insurance company. We work hard to make dental care affordable and to make sure that you realize your insurance benefits. In an effort to keep fees down while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established this financial policy:
- Payment in full is due at the time of treatment unless other financial arrangements have been made prior to your appointment.
- To fit individual needs for extensive treatments, financial arrangements can be made to extend your payments over a period of months, by using CareCredit.
- For your convenience, we accept payment by cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.
If you have PPO insurance, we will help you determine the coverage you have available and work with you to best utilize your benefits. Please understand that we file insurance claims as a service to our patients. We do not have a contract with your insurance company, only you do. We can assist you in estimating your portion of the cost of treatment, but we at no time guarantee what your insurance company will do with each claim. We will help in every way we can in filing your claim and answering questions from our office on your behalf.
